1. Little Venice

With panoramic views of the harbor, its no wonder that this neighborhood is at the top of our list! Chora is filled with charming historic homes overlooking the sea, along with a plethora of restaurants, quaint bars, nightclubs and shops. Be sure to watch the beautiful Grecian sunset from here and stick around to see this neighborhood come to life with its its famous nightlife!

2. Windmills

A trip to Mykonos is incomplete without visiting the famous 16th century windmill landmarks. These are no longer functional; however, serve as a great historical memory of the early settlers and their way of life and ingenuity of how they used the islands natural high winds to refine grain. They can be spotted from several locations; the most popular being the Kato Myloi located at the top of the hill overlooking the town of Chora.  This is also a very popular spot to watch the sunset as well!

3. Sunset

There is a plethora of options to choose from when it comes to watching the famous Grecian sunset; we suggest that you take the time to experience a different spot each day while you are there.

You can head to Little Venice, the windmills overlooking Chora, the harbor in Kastro, sunset cruise, the Elysium Hotel’s terrace and sunset horseback riding in Fokos beach. These are just some of the amazing places to watch and experience this unforgettable sunset.

4. Beaches

Some of our favourites are Psarrou and Ornos beach.

Psarrou beach is one of the trendiest and most popular beaches on the island where you may just spot some celebrities. With white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, its no wonder the clientele that it attracts annually.

It is quite normal to see private docked yachts, along with water sports such as jet skiing and motor boating.

Ornos Beach is filled with beautiful panoramic views of the landscape and gorgeous blue water making it the perfect place to spend the day!

There are plenty of sun beds, umbrellas and lounge chairs to relax. The staff at the restaurants are quite friendly and the area is filled with ambient music making it a wonderful romantic place to spend the day.

You can take the local bus from Mykonos Town to anyone of the beaches and surrounding areas. Be sure to proactively check the bus schedule for the day at the terminal.

As per the locals, Kalafatis is one of the best beaches to visit, along with Elia beach. It is further out so be sure to plan ahead; it’s quiet and great for families. If you decide to head there, you’ll need to catch the bus or ferry from old port.

5. Party Beaches / Bars

When we think of party beaches, two immediately come to mind: Super Paradise Beach & Paradise Beach. You can take the local buses to either of these beaches; the schedules are posted at the bus terminals and the staff are quite friendly and helpful in answering any questions you may have.

Paradise Beach is free entry and is where you will find the famous party spot Tropicana Club! This is one of the best beach bar clubs in Mykonos and we highly recommend it. You can easily spend the entire day here, lounging, sunbathing, swimming, eating, dancing and basically just having a great time! There’s a live DJ, gogo dancers, very entertaining staff and Mc’s; you are sure to have the time of your life!

On the other hand, Super Paradise Beach is further out than the aforementioned and is more of a cove style beach with two popular beach clubs, Jackie O and Nammos. This is definitely a more expensive alternative to the other beaches.

They also have the Super Paradise Suites and Rooms available for rent in close proximity to the beach and get sold out very quickly. If you’re looking to be surrounded by a constant party atmosphere then you might as well book a room here and have a blast.

6. The church of Panagia Paraportiani

There are a total of 365 churches on the island and this one is one of the oldest churches in the cyclades.

With its name meaning “Our Lady of the Side Gate”, this beautiful whitewashed church can be found in the neighbourhood of Kastro, in the town of Chora.

It’s construction commenced in 1425 and was not completed until the 17th century and consists of five separate churches with different styles which inevitably were joined into one.

If you’re on a cruise and are scheduled to be tendered, then the tenders (small boats) will take you to the harbour where this church is the first thing that you will see.

We recommend visiting during the day and also as the sun is starting to set. It is an absolutely beautiful sight; one that everyone should have the opportunity to experience.

7. Mykonos Town – Shopping & Self Guided Walking Tour

Just as we mentioned in our Santorini blog, take the time out and explore the island and especially Mykonos Town. 8. Matoyianni Street

Known as the heart of Mykonos Town, this area was lush with the brightest and most beautiful bougainvilleas, chic stores, happening bar/lounges and the cutest little decor accents at every turn.

This area is definitely full of life with plenty of options for everyone and is guaranteed to take your breath away!

9. Town of Ano Mera

This is the second largest town on the island, along with being one of the oldest where the locals live a quiet, relaxed life away from the hustle and bustle of the main town.

This is also where you will find the famous monastery of Panagia Tourliani which houses a collection of items made by a renown Cretan painter. One of the most wonderful parts is the bell-tower and marble fountain. If you have some time, then definitely visit this site.

11. Museums

The Folklore museum, Archaeological museum and Aegean Maritime museum are the most popular on the island. Depending on your interest, you may want to visit all or some of them.

The Folklore museum is a small house museum that is a mausoleum of history and old artifacts.

The Archaeological museum is probably one of the most visited museums in Mykonos housing artifacts from Delos island, 7000+ years old .

The Aegean Maritime museum houses several ship models, along with other artifacts and has a quaint little garden where you can take a little break and relax.

12. Delos Island

This uninhabited island is held in very high regard when it comes to archaeological sites and is protected under UNESCO as a wold Heritage Site.

As there aren’t any explanation plaques, we recommend taking a guided tour when visiting the ruins.  You should budget a couple of hours for this island and its definitely best to go first thing in the morning as the days can get quite hot.

There are tours available from Tuesday – Sunday that you can take form the old port harbour and the cost is quite reasonable (approx. 20€ for adults and 10€ for children return trip).

Fact: Did you know that this island is said to be the mythological birthplace of Apollo (Greek God).

13. Gyros

One of our favourite food spots was Fanis Snack bar!

It’s a family owned business, centrally located in town and offer very reasonable prices along with absolutely delicious food!

When there, do say hello to the owners daughter, Nicole! She’s incredibly knowledgeable and friendly! This is a must for any foodie! Those Gyros …. yummm 😋

14. Gelato

Trio Bambini was divine!! Their vast flavours of gelato, crepes, ice cream and the amazing & friendly staff are all great reasons for visiting their shop when in Mykonos Town!

15. Old Port

This beautiful church was open while we were strolling the waterfront. Take a moment to go inside, pay your respects and light a candle. It’s such a peaceful experience.

The waterfront is full of restaurants, gelato parlors and shops. There is an abundance to choose from so bring your appetite.

As we walked along, we were elated to see the benches available along the path and of course we decided to sit down and just take in the gorgeous panoramic view of this island with the sound of the waves as our soundtrack.
